We are living in a generation where we are nothing without our phones, consequently we are in the need of comparison all the time. We are comparing our work, our looks, family, etc. You are scrolling through your instagram feed, and you think that everybody is doing well, you are the one who is behind.
On the other hand, we always forget a few things; 1. Social media does not always reflect the real life. 2. Life is not a race. Everybody has their own timing.
Some people say: comparison makes you hustle more, and achive more. This is a bright side they believe. I don’t quite agree with them. Yes, It might help you to achive more, but you will never feel satisfied. It only leads more comparison, and It makes a mess of your mental health. Get inspired instead. There is no complex emotions. You won’t be compromising your happiness in the end.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU START TO COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS?
- You feel that you are small, and not good enough.
- You don’t enjoy life. Sometimes ıt’s so hard for you to get up, and start your day. Your quality of life drops.
- For the purpose of being liked, there is a tendency of constantly getting approval.
- It affects your confidence. Besides, jokes make you upset. Even though most of them harmless, you take them serious.
- Comparing yourself makes you feel lost.
- It might lead to depression.
- There are suicidal thoughts. (It might get that serious unfortunately)
HOW TO STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS?
YOU ARE MORE THAN WHAT YOU THINK
Stand before the mirror, then close your eyes. Forget about all labels. You don’t have to be in a certain way to be considered beautiful. Open your eyes, and look at yourself from different perspective. See how beautiful you are. Every cell of your body makes you unique. Can you see how powerful that is?
We tend to shrink ourselves into small images in our head. You are not less smart, or less beautiful. In fact you are always more. How you can compare a unique piece, there is no point of it. “Nobody is you, and that is your super power.” Compare yourself only your old self, now you can move forward.
UNDERSTAND THE POINT OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media may trick you into believing that you are not good enough. However everybody’s life seems like a candy on the internet. Sweet, and pink. The truth is we all have our own problems. You are not behind. On the other hand, life is not a race. Delete every account that makes you feel like, you are not enough. Step up for yourself.
DON’T COMPARE WHERE YOU AT IN LIFE
Your friends may get a job before you, everybody may seem like they figured out everything in life. This doesn’t give you the excuse of comparing yourself. You don’t have to be something at a certain age. Be happy for your friends, and know, your time definitely will come. Even if your life seems a huge wreck right now. You are so strong to get up, and start from there. There is always a white page.

Focus on what you have, not what you don’t have. Keep a morning journal. Write down 3 things that you are so grateful to have in your life. Count your blessings every single day. In any case, Be thankful for your bed, your food, your arms, your eyes. There are so much to be grateful for. Don’t take those things for granted.
